The Safran/MRAS Nexcelle joint venture’s integrated nacelle system is certified with the Bombardier Global 7500 business jet

Safran Nacelles' Nexcelle joint venture with Middle River Aircraft Systems (MRAS) has marked a new milestone with the Global 7500 business jet's certification – becoming the first aircraft approved for operational service with a nacelle system produced through this collaboration.

Following the Global 7500's receipt of its type certificate on September 28 from Transport Canada – the Canadian airworthiness authority – the long-range Bombardier-built twin-engine aircraft is cleared for its service entry later this year.

Safran Nacelles provides the nacelle system's thrust reverser, which is based on the company's proven target-type configuration. Produced primarily in composites, it is one of the lightest-weight thrust reversers in its category ever manufactured by Safran Nacelles.  

The Global 7500 nacelle is podded with GE Aviation's Passport turbofan engine, creating business aviation's first truly integrated propulsion system (IPS). This is the result of a close working relationship between the Nexcelle joint venture's Safran Nacelles/MRAS partner companies with GE Aviation as the powerplant manufacturer.

In announcing the Global 7500's airworthiness certification, Bombardier reported that its five flight test vehicles have accumulated more than 2,700 flight test hours in a comprehensive testing program. In addition to the business jet's extended flight range of 7,700 nautical miles, the Global 7500 has exceeded the takeoff and landing performance commitments – to which the Passport integrated propulsion system makes an important contribution.
